The Style Edit: November 2020

Welcoming November, a time where the rich golden hues of autumn shift into a swift dark frost of the winter that awaits. As the gusty grey winds make their way through yet another season, it’s time to count our blessings and look forward to the new year with a hopeful heart. This month, I’ve gathered a list of fascinating finds to uplift our spirits and inspire our minds:

Brooklyn artist Fernando Mastrangelo

Brooklyn artist Fernando Mastrangelo

Creator

Brooklyn based sculptural artist, Fernando Mastrangelo, creates unique furnishings with sculptural qualities using only natural materials. I find his works to be raw and organic, yet polished and refined.  I love his coffee tables in particular, and I especially love the Soho boutique he designed for Thakoon where I first discovered his work.

Although I do not currently own any of his pieces, I plan on incorporating his work into my home environment in the very near future.  The cylindrical forms of his pieces make them the perfect juxtaposition with antiques. We’ve commissioned a few layered blue drum stools for a local project, pairing them with 1950’s Italian chairs to use them as drinks tables. On my wishlist is the Capitol Mirror with the fuchsia splash, which I would buy in a heartbeat.

Instagram Account to Follow

Sydney based Style Director, Steve Cordony, creates brilliant Instagram styling videos that are unequivocally user friendly and aligned with my design sensibility in making a home look and feel established. I see him as the Martha Stewart of decor and honestly admire everything about him.

His sense of proportion and balance is incomparable as he maintains an incredibly liveable, chic, and current yet timeless style for both in his interiors and fashion aesthetic. With the ability to design and style spaces that are artful, layered and historically sensible, Steve creates spaces that feel authentically approachable. His home @rosedlae_farm is a true testament to his talent and you can discover more of his work here.

What I’m Reading

De Gournay’s wallcoverings and fabrics bring an established sense of history and luxe factor to any space. Spanning the decorative spectrum from Wabi Sabi to The Great Gatsby, the homes and spaces featured in this book are a designer's dream.

Everything about this book inspires me with its beautifully layered and richly established interiors. When the stars and design budgets align, I use de Gournay in my work and often refer to this book for inspiration. We actually designed a powder room featured in the book that includes de Gournay’s Nambian wallcovering, a texturally rich gold and copper design of which deco dreams are made of.  Discover @deGournay.

Trade Secret

Founded by the folks at Net a Porter, I discovered Artemest when they first launched. They sent me the chicest jade and brass incense holder which led me to explore their website where I was just captivated by their craftsmanship and aesthetic.

The quality of their website is impeccable, only offering goods from Italian artisans which strikes a special chord with me as all things Italian are at the heart of what I’m most passionate about.

I support their mission to keep the art and trade of Italian artisans alive, and have found both their contemporary and historic designs to be of incredible quality. They also make purchasing, customization and shipping a seamless experience.  We just received a very stylish sectional that was ordered for a client which shipped within ten days of the initial order and arrived effortlessly.

Thrive Market

Thrive Market

Can’t Live Without

Thrive Market is the Amazon, Instacart, and Uber of some of the healthiest and original food on the planet. Their mission of ethical and sustainable sourcing, carbon neutral shipping and zero waste warehouses are reason enough to support them.

During the NYC quarantine I stumbled across Forks Over Knives, a Netflix documentary about toxic foods that big brands are manufacturing and how it negatively affects humans on every level— from our brain function to the diseases that we are plagued with.

I was disgusted by all of this and decided that I would try a plant based diet instead, leading me to Thrive Market.  I am sold on their selection of organic, non GMO foods, and their customer service and quality standards are just incredible.  I order from Thrive Market without hesitation knowing that their vast offerings of food, beauty, bath, body and home products are of the highest quality.

Carayes, Mexico

Carayes, Mexico

Hot Spot

Carayes, Mexico is at the top of my post-covid travel list.  Not only does it look like paradise with its emerald colored water and tropical surroundings, but Carayes is the perfect place to discover fellow creatives during the Ondalinda Festival. I plan on staying at the Moorish-inspired Cuixmala Hotel, a resort you don’t have to leave to find adventure. With over 10,000 acres of wildlife preserve, you can ride on horseback while seeing herds of zebras, monkeys, alligators, etc.

I can only sit besides the pool for a few hours before I get antsy. I love wanderlusting through towns and integrating myself into the culture whenever possible. I will almost always ask locals about where to explore, the best shopping and where to eat.  It is from the locals where you will learn about the places that are not tourist driven and which are truly considered the best by the natives.

During this trip, I would make it a point to meet Gianfranco Brignone, founder and developer of the island, and would absolutely love to see his home Villa Castle Mi Ojo. I envision practicing my morning meditation in the vast, sculptural Bowl of Wonder while catching a match at the Polo Club by noon. I’d love to stroll the streets and stop by a few local restaurants, such as La Coscolina, Playa Rosa and Pueblo 25, and discover the untouched natural shoreline of Tenccatita Beach, an incredible natural wonder.
